Apple Watch, designated as official equipment for international surfing competitions

World Surf League (WSL), the organizer of international surfing competitions, has announced that it will officially adopt the Apple Watch as the wearable device for its events. This marks the first instance of an Apple Watch being used as the official equipment in a professional sports competition. Starting from this year's Championship Tour season, all WSL athletes will be provided with an Apple Watch featuring the league's official app.

The specially designed WSL Surfer app for Apple Watch syncs in real-time with the WSL scoring system, allowing athletes to check live scores, wave priority, match details, and remaining time during their competitions. Erik Logan, CEO of WSL, stated, "The unique features, user-friendliness, and remarkable waterproof capabilities of the Apple Watch make it an ideal solution to support surfers competing in extreme conditions on the global tour. Surfers need information about the match while competing. The newly developed WSL Surfer app will provide surfers with accurate information, helping them focus on their performance throughout the 2023 season and enabling them to compete better."
