22/23 Season Black Diamond Equipment Backcountry Ski Camp

Recruitment is underway for the Black Diamond Backcountry Ski Camp, which will take place in Chimbulak, Kazakhstan, from February 1st (Wednesday) to 5th (Sunday). The BD Backcountry Ski Camp offers the opportunity to experience various freetour skiing techniques at an altitude of 3,000 meters and provides fundamental education in Avalanche Skills Training (AST), ensuring a safer and more enjoyable backcountry skiing experience. On the 2nd and 4th days, participants will have the chance to ski at one of Almaty's three major ski resorts (at altitudes ranging from 1600 to 3200 meters), located 15-40 minutes away from the city center, depending on snow conditions. On the 3rd day, a one-day backcountry skiing program will be conducted on selected courses near Almaty, known for its abundant 2000-4000m elevation powder-covered mountains, accompanied by local guides.

The eligibility criteria for participation in the backcountry camp are as follows:

- Proficiency in ski touring techniques (uphill & downhill transition)
- Ownership of basic backcountry equipment (touring skis, climbing skis, snow shovel, probe, beacon; some items available for rent)
- Completion of basic avalanche rescue training
- Intermediate-level downhill skiing skills
